During our lifetime we purchase many things from cars, to appliances, to furniture, to clothing.  All these items come with specific instructions regarding what the product is supposed to do and how it is to be cared for.  This is why is seems so incongruous that our most prized 'possessions' - our children - do not come with an instruction manual.  If our children are typical, it is difficult enough to know what the right thing to do is at any given stage in the child's life.  But, if our children are not typical - if they exhibit behaviors that most children do not - we find ourselves totally lost and groping for ways to meet our child's needs.  This is even more complicated if you can't 'put a finger' on a diagnosis and say "AHA"! this is what s/he has and this is what must be done in order to maximize his/her potential.  PDD-NOS falls under this category.  So, instead of trying to 'point a finger' at a diagnosis, reach out your hand.  There are many who will be willing to grasp it and help you and your child(ren) traverse this road called life.
